YA novels are often hard to review. I have to remember that I'm not the target audience and decide whether the novel would appeal to those who are.Not so this novel. It spoke to me, too, all the way through. All the characters were very believable. I was rooting for Emma all the time, silently supporting her through all her trials and tribulations. The ending took me by surprise. I wasn't sure, at first, that I could accept it. But then I decided I could. It works and it rounds off the novel in an unusual and satisfying way.I found nothing to fault in the novel. I'm so glad I read it.Popular Black Eyed Boy Author Laura Huntley is a Ebook Emily is fifteen She feels like a ghost in her own home as her parents seem increasingly lost in their own worlds, and only has her best friend, Billy, for company Then Emily meets Dylan, the mysterious and gorgeous new stranger in town With his unusual eyes and irresistible charm, she is soon smitten But with Billy s growing jealousy and a series of devastating familyEmily is fifteen She feels like a ghost in her own home as her parents seem increasingly lost in their own worlds, and only has her best friend, Billy, for company Then Emily meets Dylan, the mysterious and gorgeous new stranger in town With his unusual eyes and irresistible charm, she is soon smitten But with Billy s growing jealousy and a series of devastating family tragedies, can they last Should they Dylan is hiding a powerful secret a secret that could change Emily s life forever.. Laura Huntley Is a well-known author, some of his books are a fascination for readers like in the Black Eyed Boy book, this is one of the most wanted Laura Huntley author readers around the world. . The best Book Black Eyed Boy I started reading this and, I'll be honest, I did think "haven't we seen this before...?" It starts with a teenage girl (Emily), living unhappily with her parents in the seaside town of Whitby. Her father is an alcoholic and she's virtually stopped trying to communicate with her browbeaten mother. There's a local lad, a childhood friend, who's infatuated with her, but she doesn't feel that way about him. At which point a handsome, mysterious, dark-eyed stranger appears in the town from nowhere and sweeps her off her feet. Tragedy strikes. Strange things happen. You can probably see what I mean about having heard this before! But, actually, this is a very different book. There is an element of the supernatural, but it doesn't really make its presence felt until close to the end of the book, and it's not, shall we say 'the obvious'. It's really nicely written with a good flow and pace. Despite the fact that I'm probably a bit older than the target audience (!) I still found the characters interesting and the story intriguing. This is really a story of a family in crisis, and a young girl trying to cope with newfound responsibilities. Definitely an interesting read, and a swerve away from a lot of the other supernatural stories out there.

  • I was drawn to this book because the setting of Whitby is where I grew up, and spent the first 46 years of my life I m so glad I read it The author captured the essence of this wonderful seaside town perfectly I could smell the fish chips, hear the squawking of the seagulls and picture the view mentioned in the book, with ease But the character development impressed me the most I felt sorry for every single character without exception at different times in the story Most of all, fifteen year old [...]

  • A fabulous debut novel from Laura Huntley which centres around 15 year old Emily and the mysterious Dylan Through Emily, we explore lust, first love, grief, passion, betrayal and loyalty as Emily has to deal with life changing and challenging events that are heaped upon her With strong characterisation, you end up pitying even the most undeserving characters at some point and shedding tears for others A well written novel which is an easy to read page turner, dripping with description, and with a [...]

  • I enjoyed this book thoroughly The story pulled me in, both emotionally and through curiosity about the characters and the truth behind some of them Written in first person, the MC Emily comes across clearly, and we experience her journey first hand with her, enabling us to feel what she does, both the sadness of losing loved ones and the elation of falling in love I definitely felt like I fell in love too Well written and well paced, I would definitely recommend this book.

  • When Emily meets the mysterious Dylan you know there is to him than meets the eye The other world quality of the story nicely offsets the hard hitting family issues that Emily has to deal with I loved the setting of Whitby this was a perfect backdrop for the plot and added atmosphere at all the right places.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed this book, even though I d got an idea about what was happening It was a very different, quirky read I hope that there will be further books following Emily Dylan s story I look forward to reading by this author.
