The Mole People Beneath the City is a Ebook Not a bad short story by any means, just very predictable. The writing was good, and the "twist", while expected, was good, too. I would compare this to a campfire story that you've heard many times, but still jump when the monster arrives. . Late at night in the subway, a little girl and her father wait for a train that runs deep beneath New York City It will be a ride they never forget.. Popular Books The Mole People Beneath the City My attempt at delivering a tightly-written thriller in a similar vein as Richard Matheson. Realism was a goal, as well as giving the reader very few clues as to where the story was headed. This was one of only a couple of stories that I've written straight through with little revision. It felt like it ended up being the perfect length. This will probably be my new favorite story for a while - I love it when I sit down at the keyboard, my fingers start dancing, and then the world melts away. Several hours later I come back from an adventure in my head and there's a story about it finished and sitting on my desk. It's the closest thing to real magic I know of.Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Mole-People-Ben...

  • Not a bad short story by any means, just very predictable The writing was good, and the twist , while expected, was good, too I would compare this to a campfire story that you ve heard many times, but still jump when the monster arrives.

  • This is probably my second favorite story from Evans Light I really dig the premise, and would love to see it expanded upon, maybe even as far as novel length It reminded me of the what ifs posed in Preston and Child s RELIQUARY, a book I had big fun with My only complaint is a typical one when it comes to really good short stories I wish it were longer Other than that, THE MOLE PEOPLE BENEATH THE CITY is well written, flawlessly edited, and brimming with creepy ideas The countdown kinda shows t [...]

  • What a delightful read This is the best story I have read for a while It s full of interesting characters which are amazingly developed for such a short story, action and suspense We start out with a father and young girl, his baby, waiting for a subway train in the wee hours of the morning The train is not on time, so waiting at 1 30 am becomes frustrating for the father and a bit scary for the little girl She has heard stories of people who live underneath the subways in the many tunnels Her f [...]

  • Effective short story that has a unsurprising but decent twist to it The writing is engaging and the author managed to do a lot in just 20 pages The small amount of detail offered about the mole people was enough to make me curious about what happens in their city Interesting story and lead character that I wished had been a little bit longer.

  • Thanks to the author for having this one for free, of course I jumped on the chance, having liked everything I ve read by him so far I was intrigued by the idea of the people in the tunnels, the possibility of there being a whole separate civilization underground, how they might ve adapted to living outside the norm I would ve loved to read a big story just about that, lol I thought this little short story was perfectly paced, and well written I was immediately drawn in, wondering what was going [...]

  • This is the third story I ve read by Evans Light If I, being honest I predicted the end almost immediately This didn t ruin the story though, it still had a creepy feel to it It got to be point that I wasn t thinking WHAT will happen, the que was WHEN will it happen The tension building was really good Light has a style of writing that makes his stories very easy to read I will definitely be checking out .All reviews can be found at lennonslair

  • Reminded me of The Midnight Meat Train, but then again just stepping on a subway reminds me of that story, but this was a pretty good short in the same creepy venue beneath NYC I enjoyed it.

  • Creepy and sinister in its delivery, The Mole People Beneath The City is another literary acomplishment by Evans Light, who is fast becoming one of my favourite horror authors.Light uses the show not tell method, or rather the hint at what you re not showing method, to inspire a chill that seems to creep up your spine and grab you around the throat I won t say much about the plot, but it left me disturbed and wondering about the fate that awaited those involved.A well writtenm, really fun little [...]

  • Well, this is my favorite Evans Light story to date The story has a pretty simple premise, and the reader may be able to guess the outcome But the way Light gets you to the finish is quite fun There is a sort of subtlety to the plot which is actually very effective and suspenseful I think the story works so well with me because there is a realism in the characters and the events and you begin to wonder just what is true and what is legend That for me makes for a pretty scary story.

  • Fun and rather creepy short story by Light I always love it when a recommendation by a virtual stranger on the Internet works out well thanks Andrea I would be interested to see if Light expands the idea of the Mole People and the city underground, there is definitely something good here to work with to develop this world.

  • A man and his young daughter wait on a New York city subway platform in the wee hours of the morning The child nervous, clinging to her Father, fearful of the Mole people An urban legend or not This short story is twisty, creepy and well written.

  • Good little short I actually listened to the audiobook Uses an urban myth as a backdrop and while I suspected how the story would end I did not expect the involvement of certain characters Nice little misdirect from the author.

  • Another fine short story venture by Evans Light As usual Evans gently eases one into the story, then before you realize what is happening the words are flying by at a rapid pace eagerly seeking the end This brought back memories for me when riding the now non existent Leonard s MO Subway in Fort Worth, Texas as a kid back in the 60s As a kid I always had those fears of it breaking down while in the tunnel and what kind of things or monsters would come after us LOL fun times That and I remembered [...]

  • I finally got around to reading this and it wasn t bad This story is very visual which was good I had a good feel for the characters and their surroundings which helped me get into the story I also much commend Mr Light for bringing emotions to his story in such a short time It isn t easy to write a short story and keep the pace moving while developing characters I will say that it was predictable, Mr Light wrote a review on this where he says that he wanted to give clues to the outcome Well I f [...]

  • 3.5 stars The Mole People Beneath the City is a neat short story It starts out with thinking The Mole People are just kind of these mythical, chimerical creatures But, what happens in the end is something I didn t expect This was my first Evans Light read, and I look forward to checking out some of his other works.

  • Great Story I would really enjoy reading of this Captivates the reader by making you want to know about the lives of the Mole People and the way they bring people into their society.

  • Well written engaging I didn t see the ending coming, but in hindsight the clues were there I was drawn into the story right away will be looking for from this author.

  • Late at night in the subway, a little girl and her father wait for a train that runs deep beneath New York City It will be a ride they never forget The 50th Street Station was practically empty, a rare event in New York City any time of year It made me uneasy.I pulled my daughter closer to me You have to be careful with those you cherish, especially in a city this big.Sometimes it eats people After he lost his wife, all he has in the world is his Baby Kat He won t let anything happen to her.As t [...]

  • 4.5 Book source Picked up for free on.Urban legend says that the mole people live underneath New York City They come up to the surface through the subways late at night waiting for the right moment to snatch people for their underground society But it s just a legend Or is it Well, I ve never been on a subway before, but I m not sure I want to ride one now I guess I d be ok during the day If I need to ride one at night, I ll just be sure to do it in the early evening At the very least I would av [...]

  • This is about a guy with a little girl telling tourists in NY about the urban legend of the mole people the tourists hung on every word he said even laughed at him when he was done telling the story until the story started to come true See how this man knows the legend so well and what the tourists think when the legend comes to life This was a very cool short story Evens really knows how to write a story.

  • This was great I ve read a number of Evans s stories and this was possibly my favourite it s a tie between this and Crawlspace The story was fast and well told with a number of clues along the way as to the outcome I liked the twist at the end, even though I did manage to predict it It was a fascinating idea too, which was backed up well by the smooth writing Great stuff

  • I was a little hesitant on reading this at first I m a believer in judging a book by it s cover, and honestly, I wasn t too excited about the cover on this one, but the story was good There was a twist that I didn t see coming and I really wanted , but I appreciate that it s only a short story.

  • This is a great short story by Evans Light that I fortunately got to read for free It pretty much had my attention the whole time I was easily drawn into this one I did nto expect what the ending had to offer when I first started this Great job
